EXAMPLE INSTALLATION OF THE LOX2000 MODULE WITH A G3 ATI RAGE VGA CARD
 

The LOX2000 Module has been used with a broad range of VGA cards. Each VGA card uses a clock produced by an on-card crystal or oscillator. This crystal or oscillator will be removed from the VGA card and it's signal will be replaced by one from the LOX2000. The frequency of that crystal or oscillator was specified when ordering the LOX2000 module and determines which personality EEPROM is supplied. In the case of the ATI Rage VGA card, an oscillator is used and it's frequency is 29.498MHz This results in the use of personality EEPROM 003Y.

Visually inspect the target VGA card with two things in mind, where to mount the LOX2000 Module and where on the rear plate to mount the BNC, Toggle switch, and Red/Green LED. Remove the rear plate, drill mounting holes, and mount the BNC and Toggle switch. Mount the Red/Green LED. Re-install the rear plate.

Without actually mounting the LOX2000 Module, select an appropriate mounting location on the VGA card (front or rear), measure and connect the lengths of wire necessary to connect the LOX2000 J1 to the VGA Card. After the wires are soldered into J1, apply double-sided tape to the bottom of the LOX2000 and fix it to the VGA card.

 
 

The oscillator is a 4 pin device marked with the frequency 29.498MHz

pin 1(marked) = No Connect

pin 2 = Ground [to LOX2000 J1 Pin 2]

pin 3 = Clock [to LOX2000 J1 Pin 3]

pin 4 = VCC [to LOX2000 J1 Pin 1]

Remove it using a solder sucker or solder wick.

1. Place Red wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 1 to oscillator pin 4 as shown. (+5V)

2. Place Black wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 2 to oscillator pin 2 as shown. (Gnd)

3. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 3 to oscillator pin3 as shown. (Clock Out)

 

4. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 5 to VGA connector pin 14. (Feedback V Dr In)

 
 

5. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 7 to the BNC connector pin. (Ext Sync In)

6. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 8 to the BNC connector Gnd lug. (Ground)

7. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 13 to switch on rear panel. (Doubler On/Off)

8. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 14 to switch on rear panel. (Doubler On/Off)

 
 

9. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 9 to the Red LED lead. (Sig LED)

10. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 11 to the Green LED lead. (Lock LED)

11. Place wire from LOX2000 J1 Pin 8 to the LED Ground lead. (Ground)

 


Frame Rate Tables

The following tables reflect the frame rates achievable with the LOX2000/ATI Rage VGA combination.

1. The Resolution and Rate columns reflect the choices offered by the G3 Monitor Control Panel.

2. The Doubler column refers to the toggle switch installed on the mounting bracket. Down is OFF and Up is ON.

3. The 23.98FPS through 30.00FPS columns refer to the frame rate of the normal rate interlaced video black signal applied to the BNC connector installed on the mounting bracket.

4. The 47.96FPS through 120.00FPS columns refer to the frame rate of the double rate interlaced video black signal applied to the BNC connector installed on the mounting bracket.

5. The rows below the 23.98FPS through 60.00FPS columns refer to the monitor's Vertical refresh rate produced by the combination of selected Resolution, Rate, and Doubler values.

The --------- symbol means that no sync-lock is possible with that selection combination.
