The Model 100B is a highly stable battery powered multi-standard portable sync generator.

Based on a 1 part per million TCXO, this 6 standard sync generator can operate for 24 hours on one Lithium battery.

Weighing only grams and measuring 2 ½ inches wide, 4 inches long and ¾ inch deep, this unit is ideal for

any application constrained by size and weight.

The unit outputs Sync and V Dr. simultaneously.

The 24 hour operational time of the 100B is accomplished by using the latest 9V Lithium batteries.

While the 100B will operate for approximately 2 hours using 100mA-hour Alkaline batteries, the Lithium cells deliver approximately 24 hours of operation due to a capacity of 1200mA-hours.

The 100B may be fine-tuned to match the stability of a master sync generator.

Always allow at least 30 minutes of warm-up time for both the master sync generator and the 100B before performing the standard selection and fine-tuning procedure.

The procedure is accomplished using a Palm Pilot running the supplied alignment software.

The 100B includes an LED for status indication.

This LED is a Red/Green type. When the 100B is powered up either through the power/control cable or by inserting a battery, the Red LED is illuminated.

This signifies that the 100B is operational and outputting Sync and V Dr. at the video standard last programmed into the unit.

For example, if the last output signal standard was 24.00FPS, the Red LED indicates that once again the unit is outputting Sync and V Dr at 24.00FPS.

If the 100B is vertically reset using the Model 101A V Reset Generator, the LED will flash between Red and Green during the re-phasing and stay Green once the re-phase is completed.

This lets you know that the 100B is powered up, operational, and has been re-phased since power-up.

The unit may be powered externally to increase battery life.

The output sync timing may be adjusted with extreme precision to match the drift rate of another sync generator.

The unit may then be vertically re-phased to match the vertical phase of that sync generator.

These functions are provided through the included power/control cable.

Video standard selection, output timing adjustment, and vertical re-phasing are accomplished using RS-232 serial data commands.

These commands may be generated by a computer, Palm Pilot, or dedicated hardware device.

The 100B system includes the 100B itself, a power/control cable(9 pin D-type to Hirose 6 pin), output cable(Hirose 4 pin to dual Male BNC), and 9V Lithium batteries(qty. 2).

It is suggested to place an order for more Lithium batteries before the need arises.

The functionality included in the Model 100B Sync Generator allows control over video standard selection and master clock tuning via serial data link. The Palm IIIC was chosen as the primary vehicle for control of the DVIO.

Why the Palm IIIC?

They are extremely inexpensive either used and or refurbished and are available from a number of sources such as eBay. And they have an RS-232 port which matches the port on the DVIO.

The programming of the Palm device was done in C language using software tools provided by Palm Inc.

The video standard is selected by using the buttons in the center of the screen.

The video standard is stored in EEPROM and remains during power off.

Selecting the Buttons at the bottom of the Main Control brings up the following screens.

 
 
Tune screen

The tuning control allows precise matching of the drift rate of the Model 100B to external sync sources.

The adjustment is stored in EEPROM and remains during power off.

Note that while drift rate is stored and retained during power off, V phase does not remain during power off and will need to be reset after power up.
