A COMPLETELY PROGRAMMABLE SYNC GENERATION SYSTEM CONTAINING:

TWO INDIVIDUALLY PROGRAMMABLE SYNC GENERATORS, THE SECOND OF WHICH RUNS AT TWICE
THE SPEED OF THE FIRST WHILE MAINTAINING V PHASE.

TO SELECT 'RUN MODE', THE 'OPERATE' KEY MUST BE TURNED TO 'RUN'.

SLEW MODE:
----------
TO SELECT 'SLEW MODE' PUSH ONE OF THE TWO PUSHBUTTONS TO THE LEFT
OF THE LCD DISPLAY. THE SYMBOLS '<<' OR '>>' ARE DISPLAYED WHILE
THE BUTTON IS PUSHED AND THE SYNC GENERATORS SLEW UP OR DOWN.
THE STORED FREQUENCY IS RETURNED TO AND THE '<<','>>' SYMBOLS ARE
REMOVED UPON RELEASE OF THE PUSHBUTTON. BOTH SG1 AND SG2 SLEW TOGETHER.

LOCK MODE:
----------
TO SELECT 'LOCK MODE' PUSH THE ROTARY ENCODER KNOB TO ENTER 'LOCK MODE'.
AN 'L' ON THE LCD INDICATES THE UNIT IS LOCKED. THIS MEANS THAT THE
ROTARY ENCODER AND INCREMENT/DECREMENT CONTROLS ARE IGNORED. RETURN
SYNXALL TO 'RUN MODE' BY PUSHING THE ROTARY ENCODER KNOB AGAIN. THE 'L' DISAPPEARS.

ADJ MODE:

TO SELECT 'ADJ MODE', THE 'OPERATE' KEY MUST BE TURNED TO 'ADJ'.
IN 'ADJ MODE', THE SG1 AND SG2 CLOCK AND SUBCARRIER CLOCK ARE ADJUSTABLE.

VARISPEED SELECT SELECT PRESET 'V' FRAME AND LINE VALUES MANUALLY

'VARISPEED MODE' IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE 'ADJ MODE'

VARISPEED ALLOWS FRONT PANEL SELECTION OF FRAME RATE AND LINE COUNT.
WHEN YOU CHANGE VALUES IN VARISPEED YOU ARE OPERATING ON THE 'V'
PRESET. THIS PRESET SHOWS UP IN 'RUN MODE' AS ONE OF 6 PRESETS AVAILABLE
FOR SELECTION. ANY CHANGES IN VARISPEED ARE AUTOMATICALLY
MEMORIZED IN PRESET 'V'.

A TYPICAL VARISPEED DISPLAY IS AS FOLLOWS: V 24.00FPS 655
V = PRESET 'V'
24.00FPS = FRAME RATE
655 = LINE COUNT

THE FOUR DIGITS IN THE FRAME RATE AREA OF THE DISPLAY ARE PROGRAMMABLE.

CURSOR:
-------

TURN ON THE CURSOR BY PUSHING THE ROTARY ENCODER KNOB ONCE.
THE FIRST(TENS) DIGIT WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED.

TO CHANGE THE VALUE, ROTATE THE ROTARY ENCODER KNOB TO PLACE THE CURSOR
ON THE DIGIT OF INTEREST. PUSH ONE OF THE TWO PUSHBUTTONS TO INCREMENT
OR DECREMENT THE VALUE OF THE DIGIT. CHANGES ARE REFLECTED IMMEDIATELY
AND ARE AUTOMATICALLY STORED TO EEPROM.

TO CHANGE THE LINE COUNT, PLACE THE CURSOR ON THE LINE COUNT AND PUSH ONE
OF THE TWO PUSHBUTTONS. THIS ALSO RESETS SG AND DDS VALUES TO A START
POINT FOR THAT LINE COUNT.

PUSH THE ROTARY ENCODER KNOB ONCE TO TURN CURSOR OFF.

ALL THE USUAL FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE IN THE 'ADJ MODE' ARE AVAILABLE
TO THE 'V' PRESET VIA THE ROTARY ENCODER WHEN THE CURSOR IS OFF.

DO NOT TURN BURST ON WHILE IN PRESET 'V' UNLESS THE FRAME RATE VALUES
CHOSEN ARE QUITE CLOSE TO NOMINAL.

THE MAXIMUM FRAME RATE IS ULTIMATELY DETERMINED BY THE SPECS
OF THE SYNC GENERATOR. THE SYNC GENERATOR IC USED IN THIS DESIGN
HAS A WORST CASE MAXIMUM CLOCK FREQ OF 130MHz.

THE DDS USED TO PRODUCE THE SG CLOCK USES AN 80MHz OSC TO
GENERATE A SG CLOCK WITH A MAXIMUM USABLE FREQUENCY OF 35MHz.

THIS SETS THE REAL-WORLD MAXIMUM FRAME RATES AVAILABLE WITH
THE PRESENT DDS/OSC CONFIGURATION TO THE FOLLOWING:

TO INCREASE THE FRAME RATE MEANS TO INCREASE THE SG CLOCK RATE.

UPGRADE ONE INCLUDES A 125MHz OSC FOR THE DDS PRODUCING A
USABLE SG FREQUENCY OF 55MHz.(APPROX. 57FPS)

UPGRADE TWO REPLACES THE EXISTING SG DDS(DDS1) WITH AN ADDITIONAL
PCB CONTAINING A DDS AND FREQUENCY MULTIPLIERS CAPABLE OF 128MHz
OPERATION. THIS ALLOWS MAXIMUM FRAME RATE FROM THE SYNC GENERATOR.
